Overview

Golf is offered to all students currently in grades 6-8. Players learn the rules of the game and develop good sportsmanship. Prior golf experience is required to participate on the St. Paul Golf Team.

Parents help out with practice rounds and preparing the team for tournament play.

Goals

  • Provide good teaching of fundamentals.
  • Promote having fun through participation based on individual skill level.
  • Respect the game, the course, teammates and opponents.
  • Improve and grow as a golfer.

Tryouts

There are no tryouts at any grade level.

Evaluation and performance throughout the season determines placement on Varsity or JV squads for matches which begin in early August and run through early October.

Minimum Playing Time (per player)

Playing time is distributed based on experience, skill level and commitment.  Every attempt is made throughout the season to include as many players in matches as possible.

Matches

Players participate in regular nine-hole scheduled matches with Diocesan teams at local golf clubs and public courses. Varsity team competes in eighteen-hole tournaments towards the end of the season including the annual Diocesan Invitational as well as the Blackhawk Middle School Invitational which includes area public schools.

Practices

Practices begin in early July.  All players participate in weekend teaching rounds on the course and range sessions during the week.

Equipment

St. Paul provides each player a St. Paul golf bag which must be returned at the end of the season. Each player must provide their own clubs, balls and spikes.
